HANDREX BAMBOO

We sell clumping bamboo, mid-size running bamboo and timber bamboo that we have
grown and propagated on our very own “bamboo hill” here in Southwest Washington in
an area known as Brush Prairie. We also occasionally have non-bamboo plants that we
have cloned from some of our NW natives here at Handrex as well as other plants that
interested us and we propagated, so make sure and check or Other Plants section. (link

Clumping Bamboo
Clumping bamboo is a distinctive type of bamboo known for its tight growth habit and
compact form. Unlike running bamboo, which can spread aggressively unless
contained or controlled, clumping bamboo is much more manageable, spreading out
only a few inches a year. (insert clumper pic) This makes it a popular choice for small
urban lots, gardens, landscapes, and even indoor plant arrangements. (link to clumping

Mid-size Running Bamboo
These are strong, resilient, and generally fast-spreading bamboos which can withstand
the heat, cold, and drought that we encounter in our vast and varied climate within the
United States. Thick, woody canes (1-2 inches in diameter) with lush, evergreen

Timber Bamboo
These are our largest temperate bamboos, several of which can grow over 40 feet tall
and up to 6 inches in diameter. Phyllostachys are what many consider to be the classic
bamboo – a giant grass capable of forming beautiful, open groves. Distinctive
characteristics include impressively tall, robust culms with a pair of branches at each
